Why licensed matters
Asbestos is only safe when it's handled properly
Disturbed asbestos can release fibres you can't see. Victorian rules set out who can remove it and how, so it's worth using someone who holds the right licence.

Cost
What affects the price?
Every job is different, so the only reliable number is a quote for your job. Here's what makes the difference.
How much will my job cost?
It depends on four main things: the type of asbestos, how much there is, how easy it is to get to, and disposal. A removalist can usually give you a clearer idea once they've seen photos or the site.
Does the type of asbestos matter?
Yes, a lot. Bonded (non-friable) material like fibro sheeting is the most common in homes. Friable asbestos, which crumbles easily, needs a Class A licence, more containment and more safety steps, so it generally costs more to remove.
Is a small job cheaper?
Usually cheaper overall, but not always cheaper per square metre. Every job needs setup, protective gear, wrapping and a trip to a licensed disposal site, whatever its size.
What about access?
Material that's high up, like a roof, or in a tight space can take more time and may need extra equipment such as edge protection or scaffolding.
Is disposal included?
Asbestos waste has to go to a facility licensed to accept it. Ask your removalist whether disposal, and any clearance certificate, is included in the quote.
Do I need to know it's asbestos first?
No. Choose "Not sure" in the form. If you're unsure, it's safest to treat the material as asbestos and leave it alone until it's been checked.
